Methodology
What is collected
CloudFacts tracks VPS and cloud server plans from 24 providers:Hetzner, DigitalOcean, OVHcloud, netcup, Contabo, Vultr, Linode (Akamai), Scaleway, Civo, Hostinger, Cloudzy, HostSlim, Atlantic.Net, PQ.Hosting, Webdock, MonoVM, SSD Nodes, KnownHost, ScalaHosting, Serverion, ColoCrossing, AlexHost, TransIP, Cherry Servers. We collect plan names, vCPU count, RAM, storage type and size, transfer allowance, port speed, IPv4/IPv6 availability, and pricing.
We do not currently track AWS EC2, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or other hyperscalers. This is not an endorsement — we prioritize the VPS providers that deliver the best value for independent developers and small businesses.
Provider criteria
Providers are selected based on: (1) direct VPS or cloud server product line, (2) transparent publicly listed pricing, (3) relevance to the developer/small business audience, and (4) geographic diversity.
Advertised vs effective price
The advertised monthly price is the price listed on the provider's website or API, in the provider's currency. The effective monthly price converts all amounts to EUR using European Central Bank exchange rates, and adds the IPv4 fee when it is not included in the base plan. Backup costs are not included in the default effective price.
Euro conversion
Non-EUR prices are converted using the latest available European Central Bank Euro foreign exchange reference rates. EUR amounts are not converted.
Formulas
effectiveMonthlyEur = advertisedMonthlyEur + ipv4MonthlyEur (when IPv4 is not included)
firstMonthEur = effectiveMonthlyEur + setupFeeEur
firstYearEur = effectiveMonthlyEur × 12 + setupFeeEur
Backup is not included in the effective price by default. It is shown separately where available.
VAT
VAT status is stored per plan and labeled. We do not bake a country VAT rate into the sort order. Some providers display prices with VAT included (e.g. netcup at 19% DE VAT), others without. The plan page shows an illustrative VAT scenario when applicable.
Promotions
Promotional pricing is stored and labeled with an expiration date. The effective price uses the non-promotional advertised price. Promotions are not collapsed into the base price.
Price history
Price changes are tracked as append-only observations. When a price changes by more than 50% relative to the previous value, or the currency changes, the new price is flagged as needs_review and the previous price is retained as current. This prevents erroneous data from being automatically promoted.
